Welcome to this special five-part Art Box series recorded on the road in Goldfield, Nevada—a place where history clings to the wind and creativity blooms in the most unexpected corners.
This road trip began with a spark in Ely at the Nevada Arts Council’s Basin to Range Exchange, where I met Tim and Adrianne from Main Street America Goldfield. Tim turned to me and said, “Why don’t you bring The Art Box to Goldfield?” Thanks in part to support from the Nevada Arts Council, I did just that.
After a couple of days volunteering in Basin and Range National Monument counting bats with the Bureau of Land Management and Nevada Department of Wildlife, I pointed my 4Runner, Betsy, toward Goldfield. The welcome was instant. Sharon gave me the lowdown on the town’s artistic heartbeat. Tim set me up at the Assay Office Airbnb in his Miners RV Park, and from there, the podcasting adventure unfolded.
Over these five episodes, you’ll hear from:
🎧Carl, who—alongside his wife—runs the legendary Radio Goldfield.
🎧Bob, a gifted sign painter and poet who opened his home and heart—twice.
🎧Adrianne, who joined me in the Rusty Cove Boutique for a talk that lingered until the burros came home.
🎧Tim, back on the mic to share his passion for Main Street America’s work in Goldfield.
🎧And Astrid, who called in from the road to reflect on her creative ties to this unforgettable place.
To all the artists, visionaries, and storytellers of Goldfield—thank you. And to the Nevada Arts Council—your support makes journeys like this possible.
So buckle in, dear listener. Goldfield is calling.
