Steve is a dedicated artist who explores his passion through night sky photography, oil painting, and co-hosting The Art Box and Clouds in the Sandpodcasts. He has called Mesquite home since 2016, where he lives with his wife of 51 years, Gwen. A published author of eight children’s books, including the Teddy’s Adventures and Birdie Learns series, Steve has also had the honor of being an Artist in Residence at Capitol Reef National Park and the Mystery Ranch at Avi Kwa Ame National Monument.
His commitment to public lands extends beyond his art; Steve volunteers as an archaeological steward, certified interpretive guide, and endangered species monitor. He actively contributes to the local community by serving on the Board of Directors for the Mesquite Works STEAM Center, as well as participating in the Mesquite Public Arts Commission and the Mesquite Opportunity Regional Fund.

Rayette is the Executive Director of Nevadans for Cultural Preservation, a nonprofit dedicated to preservation through education. She co-hosts our episodes that focus on rock writing protections, cultural sites, and archeology in general.
Rayette has an art background and utilizes her skills as a public archaeologist. She is constantly thinking of how to present archaeological information visually to a diverse array of audiences.
Since 2013, she has also worked on large graffiti remediation projects at petroglyph and pictograph sites. She carefully removes paint and camouflages damage from scratching into the rocks. It is one of her main passions.
